Don´t listen to this stuff until you have enough time, pot or tiredness to be weird or just/even accessible to weird thing!
Here´s also the first song in live audio and picture if you´re more into seeing these things played live (even if it´s only on youtube...). But you can´t miss the second song off of the first link!
If you´re digging it check out more music of David Grubbs at meischbäss, läbelwebbseit (more easy to listen to) or jutiup:
You definitely should know/get to know Grubbs from bands like Gastr del Sol, Bastro or his several collaborations. I don´t know the other weirdos in the title above, so checkem out on your own if you like!
Btw, if The Knitting Factory sounds familiar to you: yes, THE Knitting Factory! Or to be correct The Knitting Factories - beside the original in Brooklyn, there are nowadays Knits in Hollywood, Reno, Boise, Spokane (wherever that is). You may saw videos of e.g. Joan Of Arc playing in NY.
Maybe I´ve already written about this band but now it´s a current occasion: the new video is very nice and fuck, yeah... the song is awesome! Here it is: Self-Evidents "The Past"!!
Sorry about the whole fucks, yeahs and awesomes! I think I give myself too much american-english vulgar stuff!
You really need to check out 3VOOR12!! It´s a channel that belongs to the Dutch VPRO! On their website you can find tons of stuff: live concerten, dj-sets, reportages, interviews and so much more. Maybe you already heard of (Behind) Closed Doors - it´s very similiar to La Blogotheques Take-Away Shows.
Unfortunately my Dutch is too bad to understand any of their interviews and stuff...too bad!
My music tip for today ...after some beers: FOREIGNER! Listen to it! They´re so heartbreaking, melancholic and kick-ass, sometimes slimy, I know, but that´s ok! I would blame it on the 80´s!!
Remember Kurt Cobains junkie friend Dylan Carlson? Yes, the guy who bought the shotgun Cobain killed himself with ...or someone else did - I dunno. But that´s another story!
In fact Carlson survived the heroin and meanwhile looking a lil bit up to pretty wasted! Nevertheless he plays guitar in a quite neat band called Earth - they do very slowcore-ish minimalistic doomy drone metal! Check this out:
I like his thoughts about instrumental music: "It seems like with vocal songs, it´s like they´re sort of telling you what it´s about [...] it´s narrowing the realm of interpretation that you can inply to the song. [...] Instrumental music, it´s like it allowes the audience to participate more and feed into whatever their thoughts and ideas and what they think the music´s about."
This note goes out to Akzn und Krzl: I found out that two guys of Earth play in this band called Master Musicians of Bukkake.
Found this list of the 100 best guitar players. I´m excited to check it out! Like a good friend of mine would say: Look it you on! (SPOILER ahead) ... Woow, Angus Young on 96? This is going to get interesting! ... What? Robbie Robertson beats David Gilmour? Fuck me! Who did this? ... Jack White on 17 - are you serious? Of course, he´s a great guitarist but better than May, Perry, Blackmore and Walker? Who´s first place? This fucking Green Day gayguy?
This shit´s pretty awesome! Niiice! A really - let´s say - contemporary drum sound that I really like, a great percussive upright bass that - I´m sorry - rocks and a real master in jazz guitar! They do great modern jazz stuff, melodic, soft, also energetic and they have brains! I´m definitely turned on!
The other videos you find of this Italian jazz guy are a lil bit lame. Only this one song is efffing rad!!
Just one great musician more who tragically died much too early - in this case he tried to get out off a stuck elevator but fell 5 floors. He died in the hospital. Even though this sounds cliché, he will be missed!
B. B. King - I always though of this guy as a fat fuck sitting allthetime playing some old songs that made him popular 100 fucking years ago! But, wait. I think he is... Nonetheless, he was kinda great back then!
Not to confuse with the thin old guy sitting (past perfect progressive should be more adequate) all the time (had been) playing some old songs that made him famous years ago!
Check out the new project of Doug McCombs (Tortoise, Brokeback) and David Daniell (San Agustin)! You can stream the whole album on the website of their label! There are more albums to listen to via stream on the website!
Bought some new LPs today, yeah! It´s been a long time... I also bought the current DIANOGAH! Check´em out!(even though it´s not off their current record) Next to music (played bass in BRAID for a short time) Jay Ryandoes great posters for shows and artwork for records!
